The RG Kar Medical College incident in August 2024 involved the tragic rape and brutally murdered of a 31-year-old female postgraduate trainee doctor. The crime occurred in the early hours of August 9 inside a seminar hall at the hospital. The incident led to disruptions in medical services as doctors and students participated in protests. The Calcutta High Court has transferred the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) due to concerns about potential tampering with evidence and lack of progress in the initial investigation by local authorities. The case has drawn comparisons to the infamous Nirbhaya case, highlighting ongoing concerns about safety and justice for women in India.
Now the concern arise on the last line of the above statement “safety and justice for women in India”. Before we deep dive further into the aforementioned concern, we would like to share the last 5 year statistics on rape cases and molestation throughout India.
Over the past five years, India has seen troubling statistics regarding rape and molestation. In 2022 alone, there were 31,516 reported rape cases, with an average of 86 cases per day. During Covid-19 also, there were a huge number of rape and molestation cases registered. So as per the statistics, it’s pretty clear that there is a consistency in the number.
Looking at the numbers only, it’s very obvious that no actions have been taken to control the criminal offense. But in real, does it so? Let’s see below, the list of actions being introduced by GOVT. in last 5 years.

Yes, it is a HIGH ALERT! for all the citizens throughout India, through world that WE have to put HIGH FOCUS on MENTAL HEALTH CHALLENGES segment. People are suffering from MENTAL HEALTH DISEASE, hence they are committing criminal offense and we are the eye evidence of such outcomes like Rape, Molestation, Suicide, Murders, etc.
The RG Kar rape case, The Nirbhaya incident and many others have shocked the community. It highlights the severe consequences of untreated mental health issues, as the crime appears to be driven by underlying psychological disturbances rather than a simple act of violence. This case serves as a grim reminder of the need for comprehensive mental health care and intervention. Addressing the root causes of such behavior through mental health support and treatment is crucial to prevent future tragedies and promote a safer, more compassionate society.
Just as we prioritize regular physical check-ups to ensure our bodies are healthy, it’s equally important to have routine mental health check-ups.
